April 1, 2011 - Phoenix, AZ – In the most sweeping Arizona
reform immigration bill since SB1070, this afternoon, the Governor of Arizona signed SB2094 into law, outraging Irish Immigrants
that reside in Arizona. Local community activists such as the Irish Rite United have great concern that the Irish community
will be targeted under the new law. Local Irish are outraged. Dan O’Connell of ‘Tavern on The Green’ said,
“Under the law’s provisions (effective July 1st2011) all persons with red hair, blue eyes and or freckles
may be detained until they can provide documentation of legal residence". In a separate discovery, Sheriff Jo Arpaiolita
insisted her new DUI road blocks planned for next year's Saint Patrick’s Day (2012) are not based on race or prejudice.

Since last year’s potato famine in Ireland, immigrants have
been flooding the United States by air and sea. The lack of basic resources and economies has caused a flood of Irish immigrants
a burden on state and federal resources. “We need to protect our borders” stated an armed volunteer
near the Canadian border.

This April Fool’s day we should be reminded of the
fools we have made of ourselves through immigration history. Yes this article is an April Fool’s Joke but not a joke
when you have to live with discrimination.
My family tree is full of “boat people”, a term that
was used not long ago for Cubans, Vietnamese, Cambodians and Filipinos. My ancestors are among founding families (Pilgrims)
to the United States and Canada from England, France and Ireland… We were boat people.
As American's
we tend to typecast immigrants. Be careful. The new target of immigrants shifts quickly. Where will you go when
people shout “go home” when the United States is your only home?
